I’m a sucker for visiting a stately home if they’ve got a working kitchen garden within the grounds!

I loved West Dean Walled Kitchen Garden and Clumber Park is quite close to home (although I don’t visit it as often as I’d like to) so during our recent holiday in Dorset, Forde Abbey was definitely on the list of things to do!

The gardens supply the tea rooms on the estate with fresh produce for most of the year, so it was interesting to see what they were growing when we visited in June.

This is only one aspect of what Forde Abbey has to offer; there are acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, a magnificent fountain in the centre of a tranquil lake, and a small but fascinating stately home.

For me though, the true spectacle was the lines and form of the kitchen garden. Is it just me who finds sights like this a pleasure to take in?

During our trip to the West Country we were also lucky enough to visit Washingpool Farm on Open Farm Sunday, which was another feast for the eyes as well as the stomach!
